As part of our special series, Healing Around the World, we're highlighting the Lanna Thai Healers from Northern Thailand this week as our host Christine travels to Chiang Mai to meet with Moh Bunchu Chantrabut. The show is made possible with the help of translator extraordinaire Ji. We focus on the basics of the Lanna Thai healing belief systems and the various elements of their different methods.
Historically, the Thai government used many natural ancient healing methods for their people. Upon the introduction of the Western methods, for a time, the Thai government only supported Western medicine. However, today, the Thai government fully supports both Western medicine as well as their ancient and traditional methods, which has allowed them to formalize and standardize many of these methods. Today's show focuses on the healing methods of the Lanna Thai people, which incorporates related but separated approaches from the Central Thai methods. (As a sidenote, often with Thai you'll see the same thing, including even names, spelled a variety of ways, just for your information if you decide to do additional searches on the internet for additional information.)
We also cover a lot of information about the various different types of treatments such as Ched Hak, Yam Kang, Dok Sen, bone blowing, and so much more in one of our Extra Special Bonus Segments. It's a fascinating journey through some ancient healing practices of which you may be completely unfamiliar!
