Jen Hayes is the owner of Yoga State in East Lansing, MI. She has been teaching Power and Vinyasa Yoga in the area for years at different health clubs and studios, but hadn’t found the environment that would really cultivate all of the aspects that yoga has to offer. Creating Yoga State was more than just renting a space; it was an endeavor to allow people to feel welcome and comfortable as soon as they walked in the door. Yoga can benefit any person, regardless of age, size, sex, or ability. There is always going to be a starting point, and that is where the growth stems from, just keep breathing and listening to your true self to see where it is you need to go, sometimes its different than your original thought once the exploration begins. Open your mind to change and feel the possibilities as they happen.
Our studio at Yoga State is rich in color, warmth and community. The floor was hand laid in slate and decorative stones with a “river” flowing down the long hallway that draws you into the studio. This symbolizes the flow of Vinyasa Yoga. The front room has a cozy couch, clothing, mats, yogitoes and accessories for all your yoga needs. We installed a cork floor in the inner studio to provide a softness and warmth as we all fall down at some point. We keep the lights dim and there are no windows or mirrors, so the feeling is quite intimate, just a great environment to re-connect internally or maybe even simply find yourself for the first time. Our classes are challenging, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Each teacher has their own style so “this yoga is for everyone”, just come and find your perfect fit. Classes are all-level, lots of simple instruction and guidance to keep you moving safely as you explore yourself with your mind hanging back to observe and gain discipline.
Jen can be reached at the studio, which is located at 515 E. Grand River, East Lansing, Michigan.
