Richard Van Enk

Richard A. Van Enk, Ph.D., CIC, has served as the Director of Infection Control and Epidemiology and Infection Control Officer at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan since 1994. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Kansas and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Loyola University Hospital. He is certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology and is a Fellow in the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. Besides the prevention of influenza, Dr. Van Enk has research and professional interests in the effect of hospital design on the transmission of infection, the measurement and improvement of hand hygiene in health care staff, and the areas of antibiotics, antibiotic resistance, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and the appropriate use of antibiotics.
